Entry XIV

Peace!

I’m back!

Kinda disappeared this last month, not a good start to my 365 project. It was due to a combination of a number of factors but mainly due to a dissertation deadline I had two weeks ago and being ill, the last month and a half. Slowly getting back into the groove, so look out for new posts starting tomorrow!

God willing.

Entry IX

Salam Alaykum,

it has been a while since I’ve done a simple entry. I’ll try to do that more often inshaAllah. Summer holidays have started for me, my exams are over and the stress is giving away to a slight boredom or restlessness. Now that I’m thinking about it,  it has almost been a month since my last exam. Time does fly, though I’m somewhat disappointed now in how I’ve spent it.

I want to be more productive in general, but especially in Ramadan. During my Exam time I started to make lists on post-it notes to remind me of the things that I need to do. I split them up into categories, such as Revision, Reading, Writing etc. In Get Things Done style I added little circles next to each point and fill them when I’ve completed a task, or fill half if I’ve done at least half of what I wanted. It’s been working great during Exam season and since I’ve started to implement it again a week ago.  I don’t always get everything done, but I get more done than before. For anyone who may want to do something similar I’d advise to be ambitious, but don’t burn yourself out.

Until the last few  days, with the morning prayer very early, (around 3:30am ) I’ve given up on sleeping until I’ve prayed. It is perpetuating, my normal sleeping cycle broken. As I tend to write, read, surf until 1am it would be impossible for me to wake up at the right time. Falling asleep at around 4:30am it was not unusual for me to wake up at 2pm, with half the day over by the time I got myself properly awake. Not particularly good for productivity and in effect I stopped the post-its.

The solution would probably be to take a Qaylulah, that is to take an afternoon nap after the afternoon prayer (Asr) and get to bed straight after the night prayer (Isha) but to do that and everything else I want to do I need planning and ridding myself of the lethargy that has gripped me the past days; and so I’ve done another post-it for tomorrow, with Allah swt. help, I hope that I get to do at least half, if not all of the things on there, inshaAllah.

Entry VII

Salam Alaykum,

finally done for the week, given in my coursework and had the final test for that particular module today. Think it could have been better, but…Alhamdulillah! Things can go back to normal, slightly, exam season is at the horizon.

We also had isoc elections on Wednesday, mashaAllah all candidates were brilliant and I’m pretty confident that with the new committee the isoc will be able to advance further. Now I need to focus on getting a place at a uni in Germany! Since everyone is under the impression that it’s all certain already, no idea who gave them that idea *sigh* please take me. Make dua’ for me 🙂

Finally a video to round off the week, since my list of videos this week was weak.

Entry VI

Salam Alaykum,

sorry the last few weeks have been quite hectic, a lot has happened in a short amount of time, so that I don’t find enough time to write properly. So that these entries have been becoming more frequent, than proper thought out posts.

This month’s theme is “Being more truthful“, I will inshaAllah be uploading the first post on Wednesday. I hope that this month is going to be a little bit quieter, University wise though probably not, the elections are going to consume some time. Hustings start tomorrow apparently, so I need to get my designing hat on asap.

This evening I’ve been chilling with some of my brothers from the iSoc, I seriously love these guys for Allah swt. . Sitting and listening to them, just makes me be grateful for Allah swt. giving me the opportunity to be with these people. I ask you to make dua’ for those people that bring you closer to Allah swt. .

Wa Salam,

Entry III

Salam Alaykum,

today’s post is just a small update from me. First, as we’ve started a new month both in the Gregorian and the Islamic Calendar it is time for a new theme of the month. Which will be “Being more humble” inshaAllah.

The last few days I’ve been somewhat occupied, the hours not spending with my family, I spent on either something for the Isoc or learning something in one form or another. Which is a good thing, alhamdulillah. May Allah keep our intentions pure. Amin.

The latest thing I’ve designed for the Isoc, is for a class that’ll be on every Monday. It’s called each one teach one, the aim is to pretty much make students of knowledge out of us inshaAllah. I’m excited, though also a bit nervous, apprehensive even. Here’s the poster…

Each1 Teach1

The next few things will probably include something for a  workshop and the Discover Islam Week, we’ll see.

Tomorrow morning it’s going back to university, I am home in Nottingham for the weekend by the way. My coach leaves at 8:30 or so, if I remember right and I’ll arrive around 11:00.

The weekend passed way to quickly. I heard that in San Francisco’s Bay area Salatul Istisqa (The Prayer for rain) was prayed yesterday, there’s been a 3 year draught there. Today it did rain a bit may Allah make it beneficial for them and send more of it wherever it is needed, whether it is in Africa, Asia, Europe, America, wherever people live. Amin.

It just reminded me of how granted we take the rain here in England, subhanallah wa Alhamdulillah. (Glory be to Allah and all praise and gratitude is for Allah)

That’s it from me for today, starting tomorrow the new theme “Being more humble” is going to be rolled out.

Till then inshaAllah,

Wa Salam,

Abdur-Rahman
