Salam Alaykum,

finishing of the poster for Discover Islam Week. It is very late and entirely my fault, should have started working on it weeks ago. I’ve wanted to do something with 3D elements in it for some time now, but was and am not that skilled in 3D modelling. So tutorials were what got me to this.

Two different things merged together I don’t know if they will take this one or one without the landscape in front but they will have to pick one of the two hahaha, I’ve got no time to restart anything at the moment. The Pattern might change as well, need to vectorise another picture.

The original, also the one that saw its light at the Dawah Workshop with Hamza Tzortzis today, was entirely black and white, the only colour was the yellow strip of the Kaaba. Apparently not enough colour for some, I’d like to not go back to Cinema 4D to change the colour, so hope it is enough to just overlay a pattern and delete the parts that are over the important bits. InshaAllah, InshaAllah!

So this has pretty much been my existence the last two weeks and the reason that I have almost no time to write a proper post about something important. The next 2 longer post I write will hopefully be firstly about having humility with regards to Allah and secondly about the Workshop today, many things came up that just got me thinking.

With that salam,

Abdur-Rahman

Entry III

Salam Alaykum,

today’s post is just a small update from me. First, as we’ve started a new month both in the Gregorian and the Islamic Calendar it is time for a new theme of the month. Which will be “Being more humble” inshaAllah.

The last few days I’ve been somewhat occupied, the hours not spending with my family, I spent on either something for the Isoc or learning something in one form or another. Which is a good thing, alhamdulillah. May Allah keep our intentions pure. Amin.

The latest thing I’ve designed for the Isoc, is for a class that’ll be on every Monday. It’s called each one teach one, the aim is to pretty much make students of knowledge out of us inshaAllah. I’m excited, though also a bit nervous, apprehensive even. Here’s the poster…

Each1 Teach1

The next few things will probably include something for a  workshop and the Discover Islam Week, we’ll see.

Tomorrow morning it’s going back to university, I am home in Nottingham for the weekend by the way. My coach leaves at 8:30 or so, if I remember right and I’ll arrive around 11:00.

The weekend passed way to quickly. I heard that in San Francisco’s Bay area Salatul Istisqa (The Prayer for rain) was prayed yesterday, there’s been a 3 year draught there. Today it did rain a bit may Allah make it beneficial for them and send more of it wherever it is needed, whether it is in Africa, Asia, Europe, America, wherever people live. Amin.

It just reminded me of how granted we take the rain here in England, subhanallah wa Alhamdulillah. (Glory be to Allah and all praise and gratitude is for Allah)

That’s it from me for today, starting tomorrow the new theme “Being more humble” is going to be rolled out.

Till then inshaAllah,

Wa Salam,

Abdur-Rahman

Connoisseur of Design

Salam,

I don’t know if I have told you this before, but I simply love Design. Since I’ve gotten to know about Graphic Design, which was at that time just GFX to me around 7 years ago, I’ve appreciated good design. Design that communicates, that inspires. Design that just looks amazing.

I’ve been on DeviantArt for ages, and the community almost never fails to get me inspired. Pixiv is another such community, in Japanese however, though I think efforts have been done in recent times to make it a bit more accessible to the international community without the use of an add-on.

Tumblr is also a good community for all types of Design/Fashion especially Graphic Design, with the prevalence of reblogging Quotes with irrelevant Pictures or I guess the other way round.

Recently I came across an Artist by the name of Zohayma Montaner, mashaAllah her calligraphy is something to be seen. I wanted to mention that she started a Philippines project a few weeks back. So if you can help out by buying some of her artwork that would be great, inshaAllah.
